Last frame agony for Jimmy

The Bexhill snooker talent lost the last two frames to go down 5-4 against Jin Long in the wildcard round, the fourth time he’s been beaten in a decider already this season.

Having won three matches in the qualifiers during July just to get to China, Robertson scored the first 32 points in the opening frame against Long only to lose it 67-46.

The second frame was almost a mirror image of the first as Chinese wildcard Long began with a 32, but world number 58 Robertson came back to win it 68-43 with a best run of 38.

Long went back in front by winning the third 68-21 aided by a closing 33 and then edged the fourth 59-50 despite a top break of just 17 compared to Robertson’s 36 to lead 3-1 at the interval.

Although Long scored the first 45 points of frame five, Robertson replied with an 82 to make it 3-2. Runs of 46 and 31 helped Robertson clinch the sixth 83-28 for 3-3.

Robertson made it three in a row by grabbing the seventh 69-31 with a top break of 49 to lead for the first time. He was a few balls from victory in a tight eighth frame before Long nabbed it 54-44 with a 22 clearance.

Long, who reached the last 16 of the World Open earlier this year, proceeded to claim the ninth 75-1 with a top run of 44 to set up a first round meeting with former world champion Graeme Dott.
