Last pair give Rogers hope

WORTHING need victory at Pulborough, or at worst a high points-earning draw on Saturday or they will be wooden spoonists and throwing their fate to the winds of their own popularity.

If bottom, they must seek re-election from the rest of the Sussex League. Fail at the ballot box and they will drop out into village cricket.

First-year skipper David Rogers not only feels his club have enough friends but the potential to win at Pulborough after their last pair added 69 runs while batting together for 62 minutes against a Littlehampton side who ultimately had only themselves to blame for not forcing victory.

With bad light gathering, paceman Gary Tester was recalled by captain Benn Challen and batsman Kevin Punter appealed against the light. The umpires warned no short-pitched bowling but later, two short-pitched balls from that bowler in the first four balls of the final 12 let Worthing off the hook. The umpires took the players off and no return was possible.
