Let's set a standard for our kids to follow

COLIN SMITH'S contribution struck a cord with Alan Sargeant from Angmering. Smith said that in Dallas, parents form a guard and applaud kids off the pitch after a football match. We issued a challenge to parents to do that here and send in pictures of that happening.

Harty folowed up the following week, saying what a good idea it was.

Mr Sargeant believes this is something we should be encouraging and is willing to offer a cash incentive and trophy to the most innovative team and supporters.

He makes this offer:

"I write, as I suspect many will have done, about the published views of Eamonn Searle. In general, I believe that there is indeed something in what Eamonn says and the evidence I see every week when attending at least two local matches sometimes supports that.

What is important is the matter is being discussed in public and, hopefully, changes will be brought about to the benefit of all involved.

What did stir me greatly was your challenge to those local youth teams to improve conduct, respect and sportsmanship between players and spectators. Well done.

Can I suggest a competition between these teams where I would be willing to put up a cash prize of 200 pounds and a trophy to the most innovative team and supporters?

Let the youth of today, their parents and their coaches set the standards for those to follow and may it continue into their adult football career.

Parents, let's see your innovative ways of supporting your team. You could win cash and a trophy for you child's team.

We know that the weather has disrupted youth football on the last two weekends, so let's get started now.

Make it happen at your match this weekend. Then send your picture to us. Make sure it's at least 3MB, if digital, or we won't be able to print it satisfactorily. Tell us who the clubs are in it, give us a phone number for both clubs '” and we will publish it.

Get your club at the forefront of change '” and in the paper."
