Littlehampton lose to leaders

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club are now 18 points off second-placed in Sussex League Division 2 after they collapsed to 99 all out chasing 127 to beat leaders Chichester on Saturday.

Stirlands jumped from fourth to second with their 27-run win over Haywards Heath, who are now third. Littlehampton have dropped to fourth, their lowest position of the season.

Mark Bamford hit 50 in Chichester's total of 126 with captain Benn Challen, Justin Scott and Adam Tester all taking three wickets.

But Sussex Academy bowler Matt Geffen took six wickets and Fazl-e-Akbar three to dismiss Littlehampton 28 runs short of victory.

In Invitation League Division 2, Arundel skipper Will Clark hit an unbeaten 44 in his side's six-run success over Lindfield. Arundel posted 126-9 from their 49 overs with six wickets for Lindfield's Phil Weir.

Stuart Apps' four wickets then helped bowl Lindfield out for 120 with 10 balls of their innings remaining.

In Division 3, East Preston remain in the bottom two despite a one-wicket win over bottom-of-the-table Barns Green.

Green made 205-9 from their 49 overs but EP got home thanks to Sean Rebbetts' 79, brother Darryl's unbeaten 41 and 40 from Colin Smith.

In the same division, Clymping lost by 14 runs at Scaynes Hill, chasing 205 to win. Gareth Challen crashed 63 and Richard Waddington 42 in Clymping's innings.

In Division 4, Rustington suffered a five-wicket defeat at home to Storrington after hitting their highest batting total of the season.

Rustington scored 233-9 from 48.4 overs with Australian Andy Reid striking 103 not out. Gavin Clarke took six wickets for 62 runs for Storrington, who reached their target with five balls to spare.
