Littlehampton record first win by thrashing Worthing 4th

LITTLEHAMPTON Rugby Club picked up their first Sussex League Division 2 West victory of the season on Saturday with a 81-21 success at Worthing 4th.

An unlucky interception gave Worthing the first points of the game through a converted try but Littlehampton soon responded with a converted try of their own when, following a drive forward, Craig Walters touched down, with Dean Torode converting.

Littlehampton pushed on from the re-start and quick hands ended with Ben Best offloading to Bobby Matthews, who went over and Torode converted.

It was not long until Littlehampton got their third try of the game when Best passed to Ian Ritchie but it went unconverted.

Worthing then won a scrum but the ball dropped to Torode, who kicked it forward twice and then chipped it up for Best to go over and Torode added the extras.

The same combination combined for Littlehampton’s next converted score as Best again touched down and Torode kicked the conversion.

Worthing responded with a converted try but, from a lineout, Littlehampton won a penalty, from which Paul Edmonds crashed over for another converted score.

Best then went over to complete his hat-trick late in the first half and Torode again converted to make the half-time score 47-14.

Torode and Ollie Lamb-Cona went over for uncoverted tries early in the second period as both teams fought hard for the ball at lineouts and scrums.

Littlehampton won a Worthing lineout which allowed Matt Eames to go over, with Torode converting.

A Worthing injury then meant scrums had to go uncontested and Worthing soon got their third converted try of the game.
