LITTLEHAMPTON SENT STRAIGHT BACK DOWN

LITTLEHAMPTON'S defeat at Horntye Park on Saturday condemned them to relegation from the Sussex League Premier Division after just one season in the top echelon of Sussex cricket.

The equation before the game was very simple '” avoid defeat and Hastings would go down. Even a defeat with enough bonus points could still send either their opponents, or East Grinstead '” who were facing league champions Chichester '” into Division 2.

Hastings batted first, as they had to, but they were swiftly reduced to 33-3. First, Adam Tester trapped Richard Young in front, and in the next over Gary Tester had Toby Finzel held at mid-off by Chris Heberlein, and with his next ball Rushdi Hendricks chopped on.
