Mark takes it easy after leaving Tigers

MARK Smeaton plans to take his wife on holiday and play a little golf after passing over the Saltdean manager's job to Gus McBride, father of Whitehawk player Ryan.

Smeaton said: 'I've never taken a holiday in the season, so that will be nice.

'There's no animosity between me and the club, I've a soft spot for it, and the committee congratulated me on the manner I handled my departure.

'I had actually planned to go a month ago but I didn't want to leave them in the lurch.

'I've found it hard to bring in players and perhaps Gus can attract a few new faces.

'I was at the training session with him on Monday and everybody turned up.

'My sons Carl and James will be staying with Saltdean and I wish the new management team all the best for the future.

'They have 15 games left so could still get the club out of trouble.' The Tigers are now nine points adrift of safety after losing 3-0 at home to Westfield on Saturday.

Smeaton said: 'Westfield had three attempts at goal and scored from all of them, it was the ball over the top that beat us.'

Danny Pepper scored all three for Westfield.
