McCoy and Sussex trainers in the honours at Fontwell

A TREBLE for AP McCoy and victories for Sussex handlers Lydia Richards and Nick Gifford were among the highlights at Fontwell Park’s latest midweek meeting.

McCoy guided three favourites to victory in the track’s seven-race card.

First up for him was a three-length win in the Champagne Joseph Perrier Handicap Hurdle with Award Winner (4/7 favourite), trained by Brendan Powell.

McCoy followed up with the honours in the Hennings Wine Handicap Chase on 5/6 favourite No No Bingo for Charlie Longsdon.

And he ended the card by taking the Hildon Natural Mineral Water Mares’ Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race on Old Dreams, the 10/1 market leader tipped on this website the daty before racing, who is trained by Findon-based Gifford.

He wasn’t the only local trainer in luck - Funtington’s Richards saw Fontwell regular Venetian Lad take the Louis Latour Handicap Chase under Marc Goldstein after going off at 3/1.

The card opened with the Shoreham Port Customer Raceday Beginners’ Chase going to Global Power, a 9/2 contender ridden by Leighton Aspell for Oliver Sherwood.

Paul Nicholls and Daryl Jacob teamed up to take the Oxford Landing Estates Novices’ Hurdle with 9/4 starter Easter Day - also tipped on this website.

Jeremiah McGrath rode 9/4 joint favourite Farbreaga to the win in the Maison Jaffelin Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle for handler Jamie Poulton.

Before racing, there were touching scenes as ex-jockey and trainer Chris Kinane, who suffered terrible injuries when kicked by a horse at Wolverhampton in 2005, completed a painstaking walk around the parade ring to raise valuable funds for a rehab centre being developed by the Injured Jockeys’ Fund.
