Eastbourne Speedway riders are going for national glory this month.

The HG Aerospace Eagles teenage tornados are all competing in this weekend's British Under-19 Final at Scunthorpe. And next weekend Eastbourne will have representatives in the British Final at Ipswich.

Tom Brennan, Drew Kemp and Jason Edwards head to the Scunthorpe track with hopes of taking the title.

Kemp is the defending champion, Edwards was second in 2019 while Brennan is in hot form at the moment. He missed last year’s final because of a broken leg but has fully recovered. Last week at Plymouth, he spearheaded an Eastbourne Select quartet which won a three-team tournament against the home team and the Isle of Wight.

Brennan, from Hassocks, won the last race of the meeting with a dash from the back to take the chequered flag on the line by inches from home star, Henry Atkins. Brennan has been drawn at No 5, Edwards at No 8 and Kemp at No 14. It means Brennan and Edwards go head-to-head as early as heat two.

The British Final is on Saturday, September 26, at Ipswich before a Covid-19 restricted crowd of 1,000. The line-up is being “drip fed” by British Speedway but already confirmed are Eagles Richard Lawson and Lewi Kerr.

It is now a waiting game for fans to see if any more of their Arlington favourites will get the nod for one of the places. It will be a surprise if at least one, or not two more at least, get a place because this season the Eagles named an all-British line-up.

Kerr said: “I’m absolutely made up, not only for us riders getting a meeting in, but for the fans. It’s a real bonus for them in these terrible times to not only get some racing to watch, but a prestigious event like the British Final. I’ll go there and give it my all.”
