MULLETS AND GOLDS DRAW BLANK

A MISSED penalty, two vital saves and a bar-rattling effort two minutes from time, were the highlights of a competitive, but largely dour local derby struggle at Mill Road on Easter Monday morning.

The saves came in the opening minutes from Littlehampton's veteran and widely admired goalkeeper Micky Phillips.

As Arundel began the match with a flourish, he brilliantly tipped over an inswinging corner from Danny McLaughlin that would certainly have found its target.

He followed that with a brave, almost point-blank stop to rob Steve Webb after a superb cross from Dave Ward had caused disarray in a Littlehampton defence where Danny Stevens, though wild with his tackling at times, was to have a fine match.
