Natali breaks road race course record

IT WAS a morning of record-breaking runs as the best times for both the men’s and ladies tumbled in the Keith Chandler Memorial Five Mile Road Race.

Paolo Natali bettered the course record with a time of 25 minutes and 14 seconds - just two seconds inside the run clocked last year by Todd Leckie.

Silvia Del Fava - who like fellow Italian Natali was a last minute entrant - beat the ladies’ time (set by Katie Moore in 2009) by three seconds after finishing sixth overall in 28.50.

Second overall was Hailsham Harriers’ Gary Judges who was more than two-and-a-half minutes behind Natali, while third was last year’s runner-up Joshua Varney just in front of Hastings AC team-mate and former winner Jamie Larkin.

The seventh annual Hastings Runners event was contested in bright, sunny weather with a light breeze on Sunday. All 305 competitors completed an event which started and finished at Hastings Town Hall, and took in the promenade in between.
