Norris takes the record

Heat 12 in Eastbourne's home fixture with the Poole Pirates might have appeared ordinary enough, but unknown to some the result of that very race was about to indelibly etch another important chapter in the famed Sussex club's history.

As David Norris crossed in the finish line in second place behind Poole's Bjarne Pedersen, the 2-points he earned saw him finally surpass Eastbourne legend Gordon Kennett's collective 5339-point total, and install him as the Eagle's highest point scorer of all time.

The club's management were quick to mark the occasion, and had Kennett on stand by to make a special presentation to Norris '“ who also holds the club record for the most appearances - in honour of his achievement and the pair received rapturous applause as Gordon publicly congratulated Norris for breaking the record that had stood for close on fifteen years.

"I tried not to think of the record too much going into the meeting" said Hailsham-based Norris, typically unabashed "but I'd be lying if I said it hadn't been at the back of my mind. I must admit, I feel it's an impressive achievement and one that I'm very proud of"

Having Kennett there to present the award in person, he admitted was the icing on the cake, "He's one of my idols", he continued.
