Sally Coultas-Paul, of Billingshurst, was walking along Norfolk Road in Littlehampton when she discovered this picture on the ground, on Friday.

She said: “I was just coming back from a trip to the dentists and saw it lying face down in the road.

“I picked it up and saw it was a photo from July 1940, and thought that would be sad for someone to have lost.

“I wouldn’t like to have lost a picture like that. It could have been very special to someone.”

Sally spoke to a passing police officer, who said it might be something to take up with the Gazette.

“I’m really curious to find out about these women and their stories,” she admitted. “It looks like they’re part of a cycling club.

“But I’m not sure.”
