OLYMPICS: Laverick wins bronze rowing medal

POLING-RAISED rower Elise Laverick won the bronze medal with Anna Bebington in the women's double sculls event in Beijing on Saturday (August 16).

It is Laverick's second Olympics bronze medal after she also took the bronze, in the same event with Sarah Winckless, at Athens four years ago.

Laverick said: "It's phenomenal to be part of such a successful British team.

"In the rowing team we've got 10 boats in the finals, with five to go on Sunday (August 17).

"This is my third Olympics and this is the strongest rowing team I've ever been a part of. You can see that across all the sports and it's fantastic to be here and be part of that.

"What the people don't see, before we get here, is the endless hours of hard work and effort.

"But we have such a fantastic support network at home in Great Britain that we wouldn't be here without '“ with the English Institute of Sport, with UK Sport backing us up, all the physios, doctors, conditioning experts and all the fantastic facilities we have in Great Britain.

"They are going to get better over the next four years and we are going to get so much reward for it.

"You can see how our sport has increased and improved over the last three, four, five Olympics, and that is going to keep going up with the amazing facilities that we have at home."
