Opportunity knocks for Plumpton chief Patrick

AFTER eight years as the chief executive of Plumpton racecourse, Patrick Davis is returning home to South Africa.

He will head up the racing division of Phumelela, a Johannesburg company that is at the forefront of South African racing.

Davis (38) has finished his last season with Plumpton, where he has transformed the small National Hunt track. He originally came to Sussex on a three-year contract but stayed on for an extra five years.

He said: "This was a tremendous opportunity for me, and much as I love everything about Plumpton it was too good to turn down."
