Goring Manor bowlers aim for tidy start to summer

It is widely known that lawn green bowls has a big role to play in providing an opportunity for outdoor activity as the lockdown restrictions ease.

Goring Manor’s return to bowls is this Saturday, April 24, and members of the club eagerly await the day.

In the meantime, some of their members thought that it would be a good idea to limber up and do something useful for the community at the same time.

Accordingly, one of the club’s stalwarts, Bill Porter, arranged for some members of the club to take part in a beach clean at Goring.

Armed with suitable equipment, borrowed from Worthing Waste Management, thhe pickers picked the beach clean.

It is hoped that the quality of the bowls to come matches the quality of the clean-up.

Saturday brings Goring Manor’s opening day club match which will ease players into a very full season of friendly matches, league matches, cup matches and relaxed social roll-ups.

Bowls England have set out coronovirus guidance which will be complied with by our club.

Local league management committees have set out

imaginative adjustments to the league structure to enable a full league season.

Goring Manor’s management committee have got over the lack of a club room (which is not allowed under current restrictions) with an outdoor tea facility.

Communication with members is key to the club’s ethos of being a friendly club.

Phone calls, WhatsApp, texting and emails have all been used to ensure that members are fully aware of what the club has to offer.

The number of members requesting to play in the early games is very healthy.

New members have been recruited thanks to our reaching out to the local community.

The club are very keen to welcome further new members, be they experienced bowlers looking for a change of environment, or newcomers wishing to take up a new sport in a friendly atmosphere.
