Kartal and Burrage lose in doubles at Queen’s

Sonay Kartal was unable to capitalise on her recent blazing form as she succumbed to a straight sets doubles defeat alongside Jodie Burrage at Queen's.

After a career best victory by ranking on the opening day of play, Brighton-based Kartal took to the court the following day with ambitions to double up in the second round, but the duo were defeated 7-6 7-6 by Lyudmyla Kichenok and Erin Routliffe.

The British pair refused to go down without a fight on the grass, pushing their opponents to two successive tie-breaks but were unable to get the win over the line and bowed out of the competition.
