The countdown is on! After a lengthy break, live racing returns and there’s just one month to go until the tenth Rye 10 and 5-mile races.

The countdown is on! After a lengthy break, live racing returns and there’s just one month to go until the tenth Rye 10 and 5-mile races.

A firm favourite among local runners, this year’s event will be all the more special, celebrating its tenth year. The race will have the same challenging and scenic course on the quiet country lanes of Peasmarsh and 300 entries are expected.

The race is staged in partnership with the Peasmarsh Memorial Hall Committee to help raise funds for the village hall. Each runner receives a bespoke medal for finishing, and there’s prizes for the fastest male and female in each distance.

The Rye 10 & 5 Mile is a UK Athletic licenced event, and the course is accurately measured with a certificate of course accuracy. Marshals along the route provide direction and help where needed along with a good old bit of encouragement.

Undulating in areas, the run is tricky for first timers, but the race consistently gets excellent reviews.

For many, lockdown provided an opportunity to fall in love with running. This is a great opportunity for new runners to have a go at racing .

Last time out, Gary Foster won the 10-mile race in an excellent time of 55min 48sec. There will be plenty looking to beat that this time around.

Race organisers Nice Work host races across the country and have implemented new Covid safety measures to ensure the best possible protection of runners. These include setting runners off in waves of 12, three minutes apart with results determined by chip timing.
