Tennis picture special: Champs are crowned at Hailsham club championships

Defending ladies' singles champion Narun Chea was up against her doubles partner Georgia Lee, winner in 2024. Narun retained her title with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. In the ladies' plate singles, Hayley Allender beat Sarah Rust 6-1, 6-3.

Defending his title in the men's singles, Peter Hill was up against Simon Underwood, and won the first set 6-2. In the second set a closer contest saw Simon win a tie-break 7-6, taking the match to a championship (first to 10 points) tie-break, which Simon won 10-7.

In the men's plate singles, Ben Stonham took on Jose Noya, winning 6-3, 6-0.

In the ladies' doubles competition, two time winners Narun Chea and Georgia Lee were up against Hayley Allender and Mary Srey, but there was no third trophy for the holders as Hayley and Mary came back from a set down to win 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 in their championship tie-break.

In the men's doubles, eight times serial winners Johan Jooste and Neil Downer were back again, this time against Simon Underwood and Graham Mundy, and the serial winners came through, 7-5, 6-2. In the men's plate doubles, it was Joy Ouseph and Mariusz Romasz up against Ben Stonham and Matt Smith, with Joy and Mariusz winning less easily than the score suggests 6-2, 6-1.

In the mixed doubles, Simon Underwood and Georgia Lee played Peter Hill and Narun Chea, and, in another closer match than the score suggests, Simon and Georgia won 6-2, 6-4.

In the plate mixed doubles, Simon Farey and Yanni Wei were playing Simon Wells and Sarah Rust, with the title going to Simon and Sarah 6-1, 6-2.

A few new names will be inscribed on the Club honours board, but a few of the old stagers were winners too, a sign of a healthy club turnover.
