Unusual reason delays start of Goodwood's race fixture - the meeting in 24 pictures

The action could not begin until the arrival on the course of the horse ambulance – which had been held up in traffic jams caused by the closure of the A27 after a serious accident.

Fortunately, the horse ambulance was not delayed by much and a full afternoon’s racing was still possible.

Headline-maker of the day was jockey Rossa Ryan, riding a 1,000 career winner when guiding Lopeo to victory for trainer David Menuisier in the opener, the British EBF Peter Willett Future Stayers' Maiden Stakes.

Other winners on the day were Slay Queen, Another Baar, Master Vintner (which meant winner number 1,001 for Ryan), Novelista, Dancing Tiger and Far Above Dream.

That’s 17 fixtures down, two to go, at Goodwood this season – with their remaining meetings coming up on Wednesday, September 24 and Sunday, October 12.
