And while racecourse bosses will not be welcoming any racegoers until the end of the week they'll certainly be laying out the red carpet - or maybe some top-quality hay - for some of the finest racehorses in training.

Clerk of the course Ed Arkell told us the big races all looked like being first-rate conests.

From Stradivarius' return on Tuesday to try to win the Goodwood Cup for a remarklable fourth year in a row, through to the cavalry charge of the Stewards' Cup on Saturday, the day a crowd of 5,000 will be allowed in, Arkell thinks there are some great races in prospect.
