In sunny but chilly conditions, for some athletes this was a return to track and field competition after more than a year away. And there were some very encouraging early-season performances.

In the series of 100m races, Eve Langford (U15), running in her first ever track race, recorded a convincing win, stopping the clock in a sparking 13.66sec.

Rachel Hopwood (U15) shaved 0.4sec off her personal best when finishing second in 14.17sec and Fleur Hollyer (U20) came third in her race with a time of 13.13.

Chichester athletes shone in the 300m races.

Amelie McGurk looked strong when winning her race in 45.25 taking more than two seconds off her PB, with Naomi Ward in fifth place recording 52.42.

In her maiden excursion over the distance Hollyer, helped by her familiar good start phase, ran a well-controlled race to win in 45.10.

Rachel Laurie (U23) chose to run the 600m, but was a little unfortunate to be placed in the top race which contained some nationally ranked athletes.

She wisely and sensibly stuck to her race plan, recording a very pleasing 1min 45.86.

The next in the series of these meetings takes place on Sunday, May 2. It’s shaping up to be a summer full of competitive action for runners across different sections of the Chichester club.
