Our 'Enry to guest at club dinner

BOXING legend Sir Henry Cooper will be weighing in for a visit to Lingfield Park early next month.

Britain's favourite boxer will be the special guest at a sporting dinner at Lingfield Park Golf Club on February 5.

Sir Henry is best known for flooring the legendary Cassius Clay '“ later to become Muhammad Ali '“ in a fight at Wembley Stadium in June 1963, and was once the British, European and Commonwealth heavyweight champion.

Philip Pride, from Lingfield Park, said: "We're very excited to welcome Sir Henry Cooper to Lingfield Park.

"This is a man who reached the top of his sporting career and who continues to be held in great admiration throughout the UK."

The dinner will include a three-course meal, entertainment and an after-dinner speech by Sir Henry, who was evacuated to Lancing with his twin brother George during the Second World War.

Guests will also be able to take part in an auction.

Tickets are still available for the event and cost 650 for a table of 10 or 69 per person.
