Pair share County triumph

TWO local players have helped the Sussex under-17s ladies' cricket team to win the County Championship for the second time in three years.

Sixteen-year-olds Alice Dewhurst and Nicky Pym played key roles in the county team that saw off Worcestershire in the final at Loughborough University.

Nicky, who has played for the under-17s for the last three years, took a wicket during a tight spell of seven overs for seven runs as the Midlands county was bowled out for 98 in reply to Sussex's 204-8. Nicky, who was a pupil at St Richard's Catholic College until July and who plays football for Hastings United Ladies' first team, has also won the same competition with Sussex at under-15 level.

At club level she plays for Crowhurst Park and Brighton & Hove, while Alice represents Bexhill Cricket Club.
