His two victories from the final trio of contests means he’s won half the races in the series as he ends the season with 592 points, 137 ahead of his nearest rival Harri Newey.

By winning the title, the Southwater driver secured the championship prize package which consists of £35,000 cash, a GP3 test drive with ART Grand Prix and a special Pirelli award of €50,000 if he graduates to the GP3 Series.

Palmer said: “It is amazing. To win half of the races this year is something I couldn’t have possibly dreamt of at the beginning of the year.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to be so successful this year so I have to say a big thank you to the team for that, because together over the last four years we’ve worked so well together and come a long way.”

It was another perfect Saturday in Kent for the 18-year-old as he claimed pole position, race one victory and fastest lap.

In the midway point of race one, Palmer had opened the lead to over five seconds, helped by the fastest lap of the race and a new lap record, and he came home 9.716s ahead of Fernando Urrutia.

In the reverse grid race two, the BRDC Rising star started eighth and eventually took sixth with five laps remaining, which was the place he held to the flag.

By claiming the fastest lap from the first two races of the weekend, Palmer started on pole position for the final race of the season, and led his HHC Motorsport team-mate Newey away as the lights went out.

After a safety car, a series of fastest laps helped Palmer to a lead of three seconds by halfway and continued completely untroubled to take the chequered flag 5.665s ahead of Newey, with Maidstone’s Tom Jackson finishing in third.

The top-three in the race were the top trio in the championship standings and were presented with race trophies by BRDC member Grahame White, before receiving their championship trophies from series director Jonathan Palmer.
