Paul Sargent first Burgess Hill Runner home in London Marathon

This week’s showcase race was the famous London Marathon and many Burgess Hill Runners who were lucky enough to have been accepted in the ballot ventured to the nation’s capital for some of the action.

Paul ‘The Machine’ Sargent was the first Burgess Hill Runner to finish, in a magnificent new PB of 2:47:17, knocking 8 minutes off his time last year. Neil Grigg was the next in for Burgess Hill in 3:12:06, followed by Martin Skeats in 3:35:04 (PB) who deserves a special mention for finishing in a lofty 73rd place in his age category. Also notching up impressive times were: Mark Craigs (4:38:45), Jill Bennett (4:42:02), Karen Harvey (4:47:36), Jon Lavis (5:01:01), Steve Gray (5:12:31, PB) and Ann Savidge (5:48:58).

London wasn’t the only major city Marathon taking part this week and it was club member Susan Lyle who ventured over to Boston, USA to sample their event on Monday and finished in a superb 3:52:14.

Amongst other events taking place on Sunday Stephanie Harding was representing the club at the Southampton Half Marathon and ran an excellent new PB of 2:04:12. Dan Foord led the way on Sunday at the Angmering Bluebell 10 mile trail event which is becoming increasingly popular for its picturesque scenery.

He finished in 1:18:47 (PB) and was followed by Neil Dawson (1:24:13), Keith Delderfield (1:30:46), Nick Dawson (1:33:33, PB), Gill Berglund (1:41:43), Kjell Berglund (1:48:34) and Alison Paine (1:50:45). Di Delderfield and Janet Sanders took part in the 10k version of the Angmering Bluebell race and finished together in 1:03:50 and 1:03:51 respectively.
