Pete and Philip do the double

THE south-east's point-to-point season got off to an excellent start with seven races at Detling.

Riders Pete Bull and Philip York shared the honours with a double apiece, Philip Hall rode his first winner at the Kent course, while Cynthia Haydon won on her father's horse, Roaring Water, and Joshua Moore, son of Sussex trainer Gary Moore, rode his first point-to-point winner in the novice race on Jack's Present.

Heather Kemp from Bury finished third in the Giles Hopper Memorial Maiden Race with new horse Caged Tiger.

The 10-year-old gelding was trained under rules by Charlie Mann and was comparatively lightly raced, placed four times from 12 runs. He could be an interesting proposition for point-to-pointing.

The two popular fixtures at the Parham track, near Storrington, take place on Saturday, March 21 (Crawley and Horsham Hunt) and Saturday, May 16, when the Chiddingfold, Leconfield and Cowdray Hunt hopes to get some good weather for this changed fixture.
