It was always going to be a tough ask for a struggling Pulborough side beset with injuries to take anything from their long trip to a physical Sheppey side who sit second in the table.

The hosts’ larger pack inevitably out-scrummaged their less experienced visitors but after Sheppey had run in three early tries Pulborough gave themselves hope with a try of their own just before half-time, Guy Baxter squeezing over following a series of pick and goes from the back of the ruck.

A strong wind had been behind Boro in the first period, but now facing it in the second half the visitors struggled to clear their lines and Sheppey ran in a number of further tries to finish comfortable winners.

Injured Pulborough skipper Richard Nicholls said: “Sheppey deserve their position in the league, they’ve got a strong set of forwards and backs but on a miserable day we put in a decent effort.”
