Quality is the watchword for Bognor swimmers

There may not have been many club swimmers but one judge stated that they brought quality not quantity. Some brilliant new personal-best times were achieved as well as county qualifying times.

Amber Macrae, 11, won all her heats in free, breaststroke and fly, achieving three new PBs.

Felix Boote-Cook, 12, achieved personal best times in 100m back and 200m free and won his heat in 100m free, almost achieving a county time at his first ever open meet.

Imogen Ede, 13, the club captain was amazing, supporting the team and knocking six seconds off her best in the 100m backstroke.

Henry Hayter achieved three PBs in 50m back, 100m back and 50m free. He now has two qualifying times for winter county events.

The star of the day without question was nine-year-old Katie White, who achieved four new best times and now has all nine qualifying times for counties in Horsham on October 26.

A club spokeswoman said: “This is a young lady we will certainly be hearing more of on the swimming circuit!”

Josh Hockey was unable to swim because of injury but was there to support his team members.

Sue Eason, developmental coach for BRSC, supported the swimmers all day long with her kindness and knowledge.

Sarah Boote-Cook, chairwoman of BRSC, said: “I’m very proud of all our swimmers – their discipline and exemplary attitude to training and improving makes me very humble. Our numbers and achievements are growing all the time. I put this down to the amazing coaching they receive and the sense of belonging that we have at BRSC.”
