Southern Electric confirmed today the power cut was caused by an overhead wire coming down in nearby Boxgrove.

“We would also like to thank all of our customers for their patience and understanding.

“The decision to cancel was taken following a regional power failure, which meant the venue could not operate safely. We understand the failure was caused by a mains cable being damaged in the local vicinity around 9.20pm which affected areas to the east of Chichester.

“The opportunity to transfer your ticket to a future meeting of your choice (excluding Glorious Goodwood and subject to availability). The ability to transfer includes the next two of our ‘Three Friday Night’ events, featuring Dermot O’Leary on Friday, June 15, or Mike Skinner on Friday, June 22.

“Any customers who purchased tickets for the event on Friday, June 8, should contact the Goodwood ticket office on 01243 755055 from 9.30am on Monday, June 11. Please ensure it is the original ticket purchaser (card holder) who contacts the ticket office.

“The decision to cancel the concert was not taken lightly, but we have to put the safety of our customers first.

“We trust racegoers who were here for the evening understand the issue was caused by events beyond our control, and we hope to welcome them back to what promises to be a great evening for Dermot O’Leary on Friday, June 15.”
