Rooks line up new goalkeeper

LEWES Football Club manager Steve King hopes to have a new goalkeeper in place for Saturday's tough league visit to Newport County.

At the time of going to press King said: 'I've found the man I want and I'm hoping to complete the deal in time for the Newport trip, but it will be touch and go.'

Newport have won nine and lost three home league games this season, scoring 29 goals and conceding only 11. Craig Hughes with 11 and Jason Bowen with ten are County's leading goalscorers.

Even so, King, who watched Newport being beaten 3-1 by Histon in the FA Trophy on Monday, is confident and points out Lewes have pulled off three wins and two draws against the Welsh club under his management including a 2-0 victory in September.

After Saturday's disappointing home draw against Thurrock the Rooks are now still five points adrift of the playoffs clubs having played more games than all of them.

However, King believes Lewes will be in the shake-up at the end of the campaign. 'We've still got 54 points to play for this season, we won't be throwing in the towel,' he said. 'Three wins and we'll be right in there in this precarious league. Newport beat Histon 5-1 in the league and then lost 3-1 to them in the Trophy. That's how results go.'
