Rye opened the scoring in this Sussex One League game when Crawley gave them an easy penalty in front of the post after just three minutes.

Memories of the previous week’s defeat were brought to the fore when early indiscretions also put Crawley on the back foot.

From the restart Crawley took control of the game and it was only a few minutes of pressure on the Rye defences before they had a score of their own when Alfie Spurgeon went over in the corner.

The game went Crawley’s way with several answered scores before another penalty was gifted to Rye, again in front of the posts shortly before half-time.

Although clear leaders after the first period the home coaching staff were not happy with the raggedness of their side and asked for certain areas of the game to be sharpened up.

Platforms needed to be built for the Crawley backline to run off in preparation for the harder games that are to follow.
