Worthing moved up to 12th with the win and travel to bottom-of-the-table Hull Ionians on Saturday, which is the first in a run of games against teams in and around them in the table.

Dawson said: “We’ve targeted a certain number of points this season and this is just the start of it.

“We’ve got a nice run, where we can, hopefully, pick up some points. We might not win them all, some of them are away from home, some of them are tricky eight-point games, ones like away to Hull which is a long trip but the guys have to be confident and there’s a lot of competition to get into the team.

“I’m going to have a couple of headaches this week with the selection meeting. But it’s great for me to rest players, like Liam Perkins this week, Kerry O’Sullivan wasn’t in the squad on Saturday, we rested Sam Hewick last week. It’s a nice position to be in.

“I told some players they were being rested, so it’s only fair that they come back into the squad but who do I leave out? It’s going to be a tough decision but there’s no rest-up in this league. It’s big game after big game for a small club like us, so it’s a chance for other guys to drop out and have a rest and other guys to push their claim and it raises the performance level of every player.”
