Former Raiders man Davies to take charge of Barbarians

FORMER Worthing Raiders Rugby Club director of rugby Ian Davies will take charge of the Barbarians next month.

The former Raiders man will coach the invitational team, nicknamed the Baa-Baas, in a game against a Combined Services XV on Tuesday, November 12, in Plymouth.

The Welshman left Roundstone Lane to take over the role of head coach at Championship side Cornish Pirates in 2009.

Having returned to Roundstone Lane in a pre-season for a friendly match with his Cornish-based side in August, he tipped Raiders for a mid-table finish in their debut season in National 1.

On the Barbarians call, Davies said: “It will be a fantastic occasion and I am honoured to be part of such an historic fixture.

“I was overjoyed when David Barnes (Barbarians committee member) rang to ask for my availability to coach the team.”

The Barbarians are also taking on Fiji at Twickenham on November 30, with All Blacks coach Steve Hansen in charge.
