The team beat a strong Chichester High School side at Brighton Rugby Club to successfully defend the cup, which was won by the team in the year above last year.

The Weald started strongly, with the backs looking dangerous. One move involving centres Burchfield and Heasman gave wing Gray a one on one situation out wide and The Weald player beat his man well to finish in the corner.

Chichester improved in the second half, but strong tackling by back rowers Johnson, Powell and captain Wright helped keep them at bay.

With fly-half Lloyd’s tactical kicking game proving effective, the Weald again gave themselves a good platform to attack from.

The second try again came through skilled passing through the backs, which gave flanker Aurhammer the chance to finish powerfully out wide.

The third try soon followed, with a kick-chase causing confusion in the Chichester defence and number eight Powell crashing over from close range to give the Weald a 15-0 advantage.

Credit must go to Chichester who continued to play good rugby all the way through to the final whistle, where with the last play of the game, their forwards went through the phases to score a deserved try in the corner.

The score finished 15-5 and meant the Weald under-14 side followed the lead of the current under-15 team, who a week earlier won the County Cup at their age group.
