RYAN JUST THE CHITTY

BATTING was never easy at Arundel on Saturday, when they defeated Ifield to maintain their position at the head of the Sussex Invitation League.

The pitch helped the bowlers with unpredictable bounce and some turn, and scoring was slow on a lush, green outfield. And, as if to prove the fact, Arundel opener Ryan Chitty benefitting from his winter in Australia completed his 50 only in the 25th over.

His 57 was crucial in paving the way to Arundel's victory, since no one in either side was able to match it. After he went, spooning a full toss from Jigar Parekh to mid-wicket, no other batsman got on top of the bowling.

Arundel's 147 did not appear to be a strong total to defend, but club skipper Neil Mustard appeared confident he and his fellow bowlers could do so.
