Saints hoping to hit the front

ST LEONARDS can hit the front in the Sussex League this weekend with victory at Hassocks.

Gary Bowyer's side currently lie third in Division One - two points adrift of leaders Chichester City United and a point behind Eastbourne Town who both take a break from the league on Saturday September 20 to concentrate on the FA Vase.

Although the season is still only in its infancy, going top would provide a massive boost for a club that has been through the mill over the past few years.

Bowyer said: "It's always nice to go top and would give the club a lift. They have had a bad time over the last three or four years but the football is getting sorted out and the social side of things is getting there so it would be great if the people started to come back through the turnstiles."

A repeat of the midweek performance at East Grinstead Town should be sufficient to take over pole position.

Saints were just too good for their hosts as Gavin Ramsden, Jimmy Elford, Dave Flemming and Keith Miles all scored in a 4-0 win.

Saints are back in action on Wednesday when they visit the Caburn Ground to take on Ringmer.
