Sarah races to 100 mark

LEWES Bridge View judo player Sarah Leaney has got to the magic 100 points for her black belt, a milestone she reached at High Wycombe national grading.

Sarah reached her target with three wins out of four fights, several against larger and heavier opponents. She only started her points accumulation in December so has done exceptionally well to get 100 in three gradings - she was denied the opportunity to reach the alternative target of winning a 'line out' (three consecutive wins without a rest between fights) due to withdrawal of one of her opponents at a previous event.

All that is between her and the coveted 1st Dan (black belt) is the practical examination in which she has to demonstrate her theoretical knowledge to a Dan grade examiner, performing a range of throwing and groundwork techniques to a high standard. This demands an high level of judo techniques and she will be training hard over the next few weeks to achieve this standard.

Many players from the Bridge View club will be taking part in the county trials at Worthing on Sunday looking for the chance to represent Sussex.
