Scholarship propels Melissa to European glory

A TALENTED young dressage rider has won a scholarship to become part of the British Junior European Team in 2009.

Melissa Beer will also become established at Prix St Georges level because of it.

The 17-year-old, from Barns Green, near Horsham, has been involved in dressage since she was 12. She was on the British pony training squad for two consecutive years with her first dressage pony, The Importance of Being Ernest.

This year will be her last in Juniors.

In 2004, the duo won the Elementary Restricted dressage championships at the National Championships and came fifth in the Medium Restricted Championships.
