SEAFORD FALL APART AT THE END

WITH injuries already reducing options for both senior sides, Seaford could not have had a worse week to host league leaders Hastings and Bexhill.

Captain Matt Garman's problems were compounded with three first-choice backs unavailable so leaving him a very different side to that which knocked league leaders Crawley off the top a couple of weeks ago.

The deficit was soon 26 points after four tries within 25 minutes. But Seaford's pack showed resilience and started to dominate the Hastings forwards and limit the backs' possession. And a consolation try came for the home side on 30 minutes from a quickly taken tap penalty.

Seaford kept up the pressure after the break and it took 22 minutes for Hastings to score again. An indication of the pressure Seaford were applying came on 66 minutes as Hastings, although leading by 28 points, elected to kick a penalty so as to be sure of increasing their lead further.

Another try from the Hastings back division on 70 minutes spurred Seaford into a good attacking phase and from a five-metre scrum the pack moved the ball over the line with Matt Evans grounding to score.

But the closing spell saw Seaford fall apart and concede another three tries as home legs simply ran out of pace.

The seconds were also at home and playing a top-of-the-table side.

They lost with Richard Jones and Jason Roberts scoring the home side's tries. A great performance from the home forwards set a solid platform but the difference proved to be two break-away tries from the visitors. Next week Seaford 2nds travel to Hove for a league game.
