Sidley crash out of FA Vase

SIDLEY United failed to repeat their FA Vase exploits of last year as they were knocked out of the prestigious national competition on Saturday.

The Blues, who reached the third round in 2005, lost 3-1 away to Croydon in the second round of this season's competition.

The manner of the defeat would have annoyed joint managers Andy Laskey and Keith Miles because this was a game Sidley could well have won.

They had the majority of the possession and played some decent football at times, but defensive lapses cost them dearly against opposition riding high in the equivalent-standing Kent Premier Division.

United found themselves three-down inside the opening 27 minutes and all three goals really ought to have been avoided.

They made a fight of it playing with a third forward after half time, but their final ball was too often not up to standard.

Sidley pulled one goal back through Peter Baker in the 81st minute, but Mickey O'Callaghan was shown a straight red card for a stupid off-the-ball kick at an opponent in the 89th minute.
