Sidley suffer final agony

SIDLEY United's RUR Cup dreams were dashed as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat in the final against a workmanlike Southwick side on Tuesday night.

United were undone by a freak lob by Mark Burt from 40 yards and a controversial winner where Chris Copley appeared to be barged off the ball in the build up to Tony Holden's strike.

United manager Peter Heritage felt the game got away from his side after they squandered several golden opportunities early on.

He said: "I'm disappointed for the players more than anything. I think we should have had it sewn up after about half an hour - we created so many chances. Another 20 or 25 per cent we would have won it."

The impressive Shae Spreafico cancelled out Burt's 11th minute opener less than 60 seconds later but Holden won it after 67 minutes and Sidley rarely threatened thereafter.

United revert to league action with home games against Arundel on Saturday March 15 (3pm) and Ringmer on Tuesday (7.45pm).
