Skiers hampered by ... snow - but Yasmin's not fazed

High winds and heavy snow challenged many athletes on day four of the English Alpine Championships, hosted by Snowsport England in Bormio, Italy, where excellent performances from Chichester's Yasmin Cooper saw her finish in first place.

The championships saw a host of excellent athletes tackle the 235m-steep pistes in the 16th annual race.

British Ski Academy racer Cooper, 13, achieved a time of 47.97 and said: “It feels really good. The course felt really smooth and I’m really pleased but really tired now.”

She has moved on to Slovenia at the end of the week to continue her race season.

The chief executive of Snowsport England, Tim Fawke, said: “It was tough out there, but we saw some good racing and we are pleased with the success of the English Alpine Championships so far. Hopefully people at home are being inspired to visit their local slope.”
