Snooker star into world’s top 50

Snooker star Jimmy Robertson has moved into the world’s top 50.

The Bexhill-based talent is 50th on the latest ranking list after reaching round three of Players Tour Championship event eight in Ireland at the weekend.

Robertson whitewashed 80th-ranked Chinese player Tian Pengfei 4-0 in round one on Saturday afternoon before overcoming 17th-ranked Mark Davis, from St Leonards, 4-2 in round two.

It was the second time Robertson has beaten Davis in their two encounters in World Snooker tournaments. He also got the better of him 4-0 in PTC event five last season.

Robertson then came close to upsetting world no.1 Mark Selby in round three on Saturday evening only to be edged out 4-3. Robertson, of course, lost 10-1 to Selby on his World Championship debut during April.

The 25-year-old Robertson is 24th and Davis is ninth on the PTC order of merit with the top 24 at the end of the 12 events advancing to the final stages next March.
