Softball duo soar to Solent success

TWO Chichester Falcons softball players have been called up for regional representation.

David Morris and Vicky Cathie were called up to play for Solent Seahawks, a regional team representing the Solent Softball League, in the third tournament of the Diamond Series in Slough.

The plucky pair from Chichester helped the Seahawks take fifth place out of 15 teams from all over the UK.

In their latest run-out, the Falcons lost 14-3 to Itchen Knicks.

It was a tough fixture for the Falcons. After an impressive start for the Chichester side, the Knicks swung away in the later innings to run away with the game.

An early rally in the first innings saw Graham Boiling and MVP Zita Racz run in to score while the Knicks were unusually quiet at bat. The Falcons could not build on their strong start and steadily the Knicks put runs on the board despite acrobatic fielding from Ben Sawkins and Jenny Dunn at second base.

Tomas Geciauskas hit a resounding triple and James Wheeler was solid at first base, but the Falcons outfield were hammered time and time again by the Knicks sluggers, who went on to win 14-3.
