SPINNERS TURN GAME

LITTLEHAMPTON produced a superb team performance on Saturday to defeat a strong Haywards Heath side at Perrymount Road.

The match was one of recovery and collapse. Having been 80-5, Littlehampton made a quite respectable 181-9. But then Heath looked on course for victory at 98-2, and fell away to be dismissed for 140 and seemed pretty dismal in the batting below seven in the order.

The architects of the start of the downfall were Littlehampton spinners Benn Challen and Chris Hanks. Challen had both Charlie Dowdall and Olly Cove caught behind by Andrew Northcote, who ended with five victims, including the stumping of dangerman Danny Hall off Paul Wells for 34.

Gregg Fry, Heath's South African, made 51 in quick time including a six and seven fours, but after his departure '“ leg-before to Hanks '“ it was surrender all round. Hanks removed Gary Honeysett with a superb catch by Darren Mathura at slip and Heath were 115-6.
