Storey hoping for a happy ending

Hastings United will be a force to be reckoned with this season, according to one of the club's new signings.

Anthony Storey started life playing in the same youth team as England and Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing at Middlesbrough, before spells at Dunfermline Athletic, Lewes and Eastbourne Borough.

But the experienced midfielder has been won over by the ambition and enthusiasm of Pilot Field boss Tony Dolby and insists he has rarely been so excited heading into a new season.

"I am raring to go," Storey said. "It was easy to see what Tony (Dolby) is trying to do down here. The club has been on the up since he became manager and it seems like Hastings is suddenly the place to be."

Storey, who is based in Eastbourne, said the decision to sign for the Arrows was an easy one - especially after working with Dolby earlier in his career.

He continued: "I know Tony from my time spent at Tonbridge and I was always impressed with the way he set his teams out to play football.

"Living locally this move made sense - especially as I have a young family to think of. Everything about the club just seemed to fit.

"With the players and manager that we have, we should be looking for a play-off place at the very least."
