Storrington go safe from relegation on last day

STORRINGTON went safe in County League Division 2 by defeating Midhurst 3-1, even as rivals Broadbridge Heath were losing 1-0 at Seaford Town and being relegated instead, along with Saltdean United.

Ramin Jarvand and Dan Griffin gave Swans a 2-0 lead, Tom Stevens equalised for high-finishing Midhurst but Dean Leaver lobbed the clincher 11 minutes for time.

Similarly in Division 1, Worthing United were winning 4-2 at home to Chichester to stay in what looks certain, now to be a safe third-bottom position, at the same time as Rye were losing 2-1 at Hassocks to remain second-bottom and go down with Littlehampton Town.

Gavin Geddes got all four of United's goals to finish the season on 23 in 29 games. United went 3-0 up but conceded two quick replies before Geddes' fourth came from the last kick of the game.

Lancing, already safe, lost 4-1 away to Lingfield, who had also gone clear of danger in the Division 2 relegation zone. Ashley Bailey gave Lingfield the lead with a back-headed own goal, Lingfield got another but Joe Howard pulled Lancing back to 2-1 on the brink of half-time.

Luke McCabe's handball meant a penalty only three minutes into the second half and Lingfield's last came three minutes from time.
