Sun shines at West Wittering - and hosts are too hot to handle

After a month without a ball bowled at the Millennium Meadow, West Wittering returned to winning ways in a fiery encounter with West Sussex Invitation League division six bottom side Storrington.

The visitors elected to bat on a questionable wicket and with the score on 25, Spike Western (2-16) claimed his first victim of the day.

Fisher (30) and Homewood (15) put up resistance but were removed by Western and Alex Salmon (1-26).

At 65 for three, Richard Hammond and James White (2-5) joined the attack. Flight and guile from Hammond and sharp turn from White proved a dangerous combination, wickets started to tumble and Storrington were 86 all out.Hammond took five for 15.

Mark Taylor (28*) and Ben Cook (24) opened the reply, taking the score to 45 before McKilligin made a breakthrough.

Carl Tupper (7) mistimed his shot trying to go over the top which meant that James Sandford (11*) joined Taylor to see Wittering home by eight wickets, taking 30 points and cementing their place at the top.

Aldwick v Felbridge & S II

Division four

Aldwick had a comfortable eight-wicket victory to keep them third in the table, just two points behind Horsham III.

Nabid Rhahman (4-15) showed his class with an opening spell that had Felbridge’s first four batsmen back in the pavilion.

Only John Connelly (20) showed fight, but first change Ollie Smith smothered any further resistance with three for 26.

Liam Hicks wrapped up the innings with two quick wickets in just two overs. The visitors finished on 110 all out from 42 overs.

Chasing 111 was never going to be too difficult for the home side, as shown by an 57-run opening partnership from Joel Lodge ( 37) and Louis Paul (18).

After they fell, Dean Stokes (23*) and Adam Rutter (18*) calmly took the side over the winning line.
