Sussex darts players want to go to Hull and back

Jason Hills from Midhurst is already lined up to travel to Hull to compete alongside his brother, BDO player Andy Hills, in the world championship international play-offs.

Jason is hoping to make it a double by qualifying for the Winmau World Championship national play-offs.

He is in top form at the moment, fresh from winning the Lancing Open and taking the man-of-the-match award at super league last week with an impressive 33.40 average. He is hoping to keep his good form going this weekend.

He said: “I’m on the top of my game at present. As long as I keep my doubles tight and don’t let the other player in, I am confident I can go all the way and qualify – then who knows what I can do at Hull?”

Young Harry Annals leads the way with an impressive four man-of-the-match awards. He is also the holder of the shortest leg in division one with 15 darts, but Tim Macarthy, playing for The Friary in division two, holds the league’s shortest leg to date – a 12-darter.

Macarthy and Pete Mitchell, playing for BRSA, have the most tons - 23 each - and Chichester’s Hayley Gatford is leading the way for the ladies, mixing it at the top with the guys with an impressive 17 tons.

Again the ladies have the highest shot-out to date with Debbie Reynolds playing for The Richmond in division two shooting out on 160.

The BRSA lead the way in the 180s table with two players on three – Matt Bourner and another of Bognor’s young starts, Joe Osman.

Sussex Super League

Littlehampton A travelled to Broadbridge Heath attempting to close the gap on league leaders Worthing.

A Littlehampton team consisting of players from Midhurst, Chichester and Bognor won 7-2 to stay second by opening the gap between them and third place to 13 points.

The Hills brothers from Midhurst opened the match in winning form, taking the first two games. Jason Hills opened with a 33.40 winning average game which set the tone.

Captain Andy Hills took the second game with a 23 average. Bognor’s Courtney Wilson (22.10), Craig Stoner (21.17), Terry Howse (24.02) all added wins to the board.

Bognor’s Graeme Dutton was unable to close out his match despite good darts which included nine tons and a 180.

His opponent took out a 113 finish to win 3-2 and Adi Lindfield from Chichester was the other loser for Littlehampton.

Gary Blackwood looked close to taking the MoM award when he matched Hills in darts used, but because of dropping a leg he finished on an average of 31.53. Mick Rodgers secured the 7-2 win with a winning average of 26.42.
